Artist Statement: “Suspended Light” is a small, complete series of photographs made under the shroud of a dense fog bank on the coast of Maine. I have always been drawn to making photographs in challenging weather and natural light conditions because of the way the environment completely transforms. In this series, the density of the fog creates an ethereal and mysterious aura, completely erasing the horizon line and causing the water to take on a green hue. Due to the complete absence of the horizon, my eye is drawn to the texture of the water and the way in which the sea can be perceived as an empty, tranquil void.
Jessica Cantlin is a fine art landscape photographer from Seattle, Washington. Jessica’s photographs capture the quiet landscape that exists where people and nature intersect with the environment. Through the lens, she photographs the tranquility of the natural world, and is drawn to moods created by water, weather, and natural light. Jessica’s work is also that of a storyteller. Every place and person that she photographs has a story. She is a discrete observer who creates images that translate that story and transport the viewer to another place and slice of time that may never be captured in the same light again.
Jessica is also a fine art digital printer. When she takes a photograph, she will only bring it to life if she is able to evoke the same emotion in the print that inspired her to capture the image. Jessica’s work is best viewed in large-scale displays where the simplicity of a quiet landscape can achieve the drama of a grand scene. Jessica’s photographs are printed and sold in limited edition using only the finest archival papers and inks.
