Every year during the eve of San Antón, on January 17, is celebrated the festival of the Luminarias in the town of San Bartolomé de Pinares is a municipality of Spain belonging to the province of Avila, about twenty bonfires are lit in the streets Of the town and more than a hundred horses jump above so that the smoke purifies them by freeing them of diseases. Although the origin of this tradition is uncertain, it has been celebrated since the eighteenth century, when the need to keep animals healthy was vital for the livelihood of the villagers.
