One of the most obvious ways of transportation from Dhaka to Narayanagaj is via train. For most low income people there is a tendency of traveling on the roof of a train just to avoid the fare. Sometimes they caught by the ticket man and pay fine duly. In those passengers some of them belongs to the gang who does pick pocket or other petty crimes. Of those member from the gang is fourteen year old Mohammed Salam. From morning to evening he spends his time on the roof of the train doing drugs & pick pocketing other passengers along with his gang. Sometime if they find anything expensive, the entire gang jumps as soon as the train slows down. This is more of a regular scene in Dhaka to Narayanganj train journey. The easy part is that he gets away with crime every time as he is a minor, and the police does not bother taking the case. Sometimes for the sake of financial state or sometimes to buy drugs they commit themselves in these crimes. I asked Salam the story behind his hand but he avoids it every time. One of his gang member mentioned that he lost his hand on an accident on the train but Salam denied. For the sake of money and drugs he still could not leave this profession as of yet. Salam’s father divorced his mother and left and from then on he is the only sole support for himself.
