European Bee-eaters nest in colonies in burrows dug in the banks of rivers. Before entering the burrow for hatching and later feeding their young, they land near the entrance. Perches are quite rare and often consist of hanging roots. When a perch is well disposed, it is stormed and becomes the landing ground for many birds. The branch becomes an object of lust and disputes follow one another at the rate of landings and take-offs. I wanted to capture this fleeting moment of landing where the bird spreads its wings in large to brake before impact with the branch. His attention is at its peak and his eyes are on the branch for a split second! These photographs were taken under cover along the Durance, Lubéron, France

About author:

Originally from Vercors, Laurent CHAGNARD started the photo very young. His work is focused on nature in a broad sense. Since 2006, he has taken the digital shift, always focused on nature. Installed for several years in the Luberon, it focuses on the birds of wetlands, rivers, ponds mainly at dawn and dusk.
He was a finalist at the 2016 Wildlife Photographer of the Year at the Natural History Museum in London in the Birds category with a muddy flamingo portrait (study in mud).
He realized his first exhibition "Flamingo Art" consisting of portraits reworked in B & W flamingos on Aix en Provence at the Mezzanine in March 2017.
He set up a first artistic festival this summer at Lauris where he exhibited pictures of birds and landscapes of Provence and Camargue.
He proposes today for this exhibition «the bird with the seven colors» a series of photos on the Bee-eaters of Europe that he follows for 2 years on colonies of edge of Durance. "I noticed while talking about the European Bee-eaters around me that this bird is unknown; Even those who have already heard the song of the bee-eater do not really know what it looks like and do not know much about him "
This exhibition will lift the veil on the Bee-eater of Europe by bringing some answers on its way of life.
