Hanami literally means 'flower viewing’ and refers to the characteristic Japanese tradition of gathering together to enjoy the Spring days with flowers, specifically the cherry blossoms (sakura). Since this custom started, many ways to do the hanami appeared, from the silent contemplation to lively picnics with music and drinks. A recent way of doing the hanami is to use cameras to register the flowers or take selfies and share them in social networks. As this new way of enjoying the the cherry blossoms reflects our current cultural stage, we wonder how the hanami will be like in future times. Rikugien, Tokyo, Japan.
