My series documents the slice of life in the flood affected areas of rural Bengal in 2017. Here I tried to capture their state of mind by capturing their expressions and environment. What I could see is that they have lost all hope. This repeats almost every year during monsoon, and the suffering is terrible. Only a miniscule percentage of families could be rehabilitated. In the fifth photograph, I capture the story of a family, where the husband has suffered a stroke few months back, and is paralysed. They live in this one small room where hardly any sunlight comes in. Till a couple of days back the room had six - seven inches water inside. The outside still is flooded with knee deep water all around. No electricity, no drinking water, limited food and the husband in bed, paralysed ! The lady of the house needs to be extremely alert all the time with her torch, just to prevent snakes from crawling inside ! Such stories don't end...
