I am an orchardist. I have endeavored to create an artistic record of fruit that I have grown in its "most visually beautiful form prior to being harvested". My artwork is similar to "botanical art," seeking to depict both precision and a level of detail, combined with aesthetic beauty. In addition, these works were actually printed on vellum, which is a type of real parchment, after which, they were scanned.
There are many myths, legends, proverbs and stories associated with fruits.
In China, Buddha's hands (the fingered citron species, an unusually shaped citron variety whose fruit is segmented into finger-like sections, resembling a human hand), peaches and pomegranate are called the fruits of lucky omen (the three blessings of good fortune, longevity and abundance/ prosperity) and are respected as the fruits of lucky omen. (Buddha's hands and pomegranates are the only fruits that I did not cultivate.)
Some of the Psalms in the Old Testament present the interpretation that pears were offered to God, because they were so delicious, so they often appeared in religious paintings. Pears represent "bliss and happiness."
With respect to the apple, Adam and Eve ate the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and were exiled from Eden. There was a time when the fruit was thought that it was an apple.
