Driving into the small towns of the rural south, it's not hard to find a place to park your car. Towns that were once vibrant centers of commerce in a sea of rural agriculture seem almost dead upon arrival. If not for the random person here or there, it could be assumed that people have abandoned them and moved out over night. There are signs of life, though, former and current, but far from bustling. These visual deserts are rife with clues that, although seemingly devoid of inhabitance, there are still people to care for, love, and inhabit them. Although they seem foreign, there is a familiarity. Hovering in the mystery of it's emptiness, each town holds visual clues that answer the question, is there life on this planet?

About author:

A native of Pennsylvania that grew up in Georgia and South Carolina, I've never been a stranger to new places. Living in six different cities by the age of ten, new locales became ingrained in my psyche and led me to school in Boston. After attaining my degree in photography from Northeastern University, and working as a freelance commercial assistant, I moved to Savannah, GA, to do graduate work at Savannah College of Art and Design. After working for my father for eight years, I went on to own and operate a gallery in Augusta, GA. After almost four years, I left the gallery to focus mainly on my own work as a photographer. I have spent the past few years exploring and documenting the small rural centers of the Southeastern United States, mainly Georgia and South Carolina.
