Death Valley: The Land of Light & Texture

Death Valley National Park in California is a place that I like to refer as "Split Personality." The reason for calling it a split personality is that most people see this park as a boring dry place with miles and miles of unremarkable rocks with some sand thrown in the mix. However, I see this place as a case study in beautiful shapes and textures in the right light and conditions. This place is like a jig-saw puzzle with endless possibilities when one comes out to play in the beautiful light of sunrise or sunset. i have photographed this place in every single lighting condition ranging from dawn to dusk to the night of full moon. Watching the various formations here transports me to a world where stories of dragons, kings and unicorns come to life.
My photographs help me communicate my emotions and feelings that I experience as I immerse myself in the beautiful and yet powerful forces of nature. Nevertheless, camera is just one of the many tools that help me capture that moment. I have realized that there is a difference between looking at a scene versus looking at the photograph of the same scene. The pictures come to life only after having gone through post processing where the digital darkroom helps me bring to my viewer what I had experienced with my five senses. Often times, it is at this latter stage, I find myself appreciating the influence of image in terms of my psychological response to them. This is where my emotional world takes life and helps me communicate what I had experienced in the field as well as what I am going through in life at that point in time.
In the last two years, my work has been published extensively worldwide in a large variety of media including prestigious photography magazines, newspapers and various other forms of digital media including National Geographic, Outdoor Photographer, US Department of Interior and many others. Additionally, my photographs have been licensed and used by prominent television channels such as BBC, CNN, ABC, NBC and Fox.

I am a California based pediatric neuropsychologist and a photographer. As a clinician, I have always been fascinated with the non-verbal communication that takes place when I am working with clients. During my clinical interactions with them, what they “don’t” say is more important to me than what they verbalize. Their non-verbal body language is the truest indicator of their internal world. Similarly, in photography, I have found that the communication via this non-verbal/visual medium is one of the most powerful and honest one.My photographs help me communicate my emotions and feelings that I experience as I immerse myself in the beautiful and yet powerful forces of nature.
