This photograph shows early light hitting the summit of Mount Robson, the tallest peak in the Canadian Rockies.
After backpacking 23km into the British Columbian wilderness, I set up camp at Robson Pass for the night. I spent the following two days exploring the area when I ventured upon this spot while hiking the Mumm Basin Trail. On my last morning there, I woke up a little late for the sunrise and had to run up Mumm Basin to get in position, reaching the spot that I had picked out just as the sun was cresting the horizon.
I’d always been interesting in taking photos, but up until a little over two years ago, I didn’t know the first thing about photography. I was finishing up my senior year of college at the time and had just been accepted into medical school. Suddenly, I had a lot more free time on my hands than I was used to... I remember editing a photo from a trip that I had taken earlier that summer, carelessly messing around with the contrast and saturation sliders and thinking about how cool it would be to know what goes into creating a truly powerful photograph, from the time of capture until the last edit. So, over the next several months, I embarked on a journey to learn everything that I could about photography. Little did I know at the time that photography would soon take over every facet of my existence, driving my to express what I thought about and how I interacted with the world around me. And well, that’s pretty much where I’m at today, plus the whole medical school thing.

About author:
During the week, I'm a medical student studying to become an emergency physician. On the weekends and on short breaks, I'm an explorer. Though I don't have a lot of free time, I try to spend as much of it as I can either outside or planning new adventures. I love surrounding myself in nature and experiencing new places, both near and far from home. For me, photography plays an integral role in sharing those experiences. Through its art and science, I am able to communicate and preserve the indescribable beauty of the great outdoors.I’d always been interesting in taking photos, but up until a little over two years ago, I didn’t know the first thing about photography.
