Six photos allow a peek into the Kyrgyz lifestyle, all taken in August and September of 2016.

A young boy awaits his breakfast in the "summer kitchen," an outdoor kitchen meant to keep the cooking heat out of the home. Soon this kitchen will be closed for winter and all cooking will be done in the main home.

A shepherd and his horse stop for a moment while overseeing the sheep for the local village. This man knows the mountains and valleys like the back of his hand. Part protector, part veterinarian, part philosopher, he encourages the visitor to jump on a horse and spend the rest of his days in the mountains with him.

A mountain elder shows both his knowledge, and great presence, with a single expression.

A child in the "Djailoo", an open, high altitude valley, plays as his family disassembles yurts for the season. Her face shows the effects of cold bitter wind.

Next we see a hay worker and his truck. Every year hay is gathered just prior to Winter for cattle. The truck is over 50 years old and has served 3 generations of hay workers.

Finally we see an evening cattle drive. Again, local shepherds are charged with caring for the herds of the entire village. In a lifestyle so closely tied with agriculture, animal welfare is of utmost importance.
