Waves crash into the pier as water swirls all around its base.

This is a photo of Johnnie Mercer's Pier on Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. I was in town for a short time and wanted to head to the beach to try to get some sunrise photos of the water and of this pier. I got to the beach well before the sunrise when it was still dark. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate and there was a lot of cloud cover. I quickly realized that the sunrise photo was probably out of the question. However, it's such a nice pier and the cloud cover added a lot of drama to the sky. I decided to pivot from going for a nice, colorful sunrise photo of the beach and pier, to a more ominous, black and white photo of the beach and pier. Using a long exposure shot, I was able to accentuate the drama of the beach scene to create this image.
