This is one of the most magical things I have seen. It was 5:30am and I had just arrived in Varanasi off a sleeper train. I got to my guesthouse and instinctively climbed the 7 flights of stairs to see the sunrise over the famous river Ganga. As I looked over the side of the rooftop terrace my jaw dropped in disbelieve. Below were, mothers, fathers, children, cats, dogs, monkeys all sleeping on their roofs. It was mid summer in Varanasi (46 degrees around midday) and sleeping without AC was pretty difficult. Can you spot the curry?
This photograph was featured as National Geographic's ‘Photo of the Day’ on October 26th 2015.
I am a photographer and image-maker based in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, Australia. I have a background in Design and Visual Communications where I completed my honours degree majoring in photomedia.
I spent three years working for a photographic studio in Sydney as a Photographer and Post Production Manager.
I am recently back from a big travel stint in India, France, Greece, Egypt, Turkey and Morocco.
Photography for me has now consumed my whole world. It's what I do every day almost like I don't have a choice in the matter!
In 2013 I was lucky enough to be chosen as one of twelve finalists in the annual Assistant & Emerging Photographer Awards at Sun Studios in Sydney where I won The People’s Choice award for three of my images.
In 2015 four of my works were selected to be exhibited at the International Association for the Study Of Dreams annual conference in Virginia Beach, U.S.A. and I was given an Award of Merit for my photographs and sold all my prints.
In 2015 I was featured by Feature Shoot as 1 of 68 photographers from around the world depicting the theme 'Urban Living' with one of my favourite shots from Varanasi, India. Have a look here.
Also in 2015 I was selected as the winner of Blow Up's 'Travel' category in their annual photography competition.
Last year I was short listed in National Geographic's Annual Competition for my photo 'Rooftop Dreams' which was also select as National Geographic's 'Photo of the Day' on October 26th 2015.
