[Story]
When I stepped into the apple orchard for the first time, the field was covered in snow, and it glimmered in thick light. I smelled a scent of rotten apples and heard the chirping of birds. The trunks that were bent over from the weight of a full autumn bounty of apples were now covered in snow. The trunks seem to enjoy listening to the chirping of birds as the branches bent like bows occasionally shrugged off the snow that covered them. The small apple orchard in snow country seemed as though it was a giant creature that breathed silently as it lay in hiding. The scenery was so astonishing that I made a bow unconsciously. Ever since that day, I returned to visit as I was drawn into its powerful body. The privilege of entering this restricted area made me feel elevated. I bowed deeply at the entrance gate in early morning and left before high noon.
Two years later, on a cold night, my grandmother, who had been hospitalized for nine years, had passed away. My four-years old daughter collected a fistful of white ashes that were once my ninety-two year old grandmother.
“A new born life and a departing life.”
“Where did they come from and where are they going?”
The orchard was always filled with lights; and the lives kept revolving.
The “world” is filled with lights; and I strongly hope so.
