With sunflower fields starting to reach full bloom a vision came to me. I had an idea to capture the galactic core of our galaxy rising up out of one of the flowers. With some research and the helpful tips from my fans I set out in search of my shot.
On a stretch of road just outside of Eau Claire, Wisconsin I found the field that would work perfect for what I had in mind. I grabbed my gear and made my way into the field. I kept my flashlight off and let my eyes adjust to the night as I got lost in the solitude of the darkness. Allowing my composition to call out to me. I walked through the fields carefully searching out my shot.
Row by row all the sunflowers were facing east, awaiting the sunrise of the next day. I patiently walked the field hoping to find the shot I was looking for. All of a sudden out of the darkness this flower facing north came into view. With the Milky Way rising just above it I knew I had found my shot.
I set up and made three exposures. One exposure for the night sky, one focused on the flower and adjusted the exposure for the foreground, the second was an exposure for the foreground but focused on the surrounding field of flowers. Carefully I blended the three together.
