I had a vision in mind, of Dells Mill with the galactic core of our Milky Way Galaxy hovering over the falls. I knew this shot was going to test my gift and skills and I was going to have to learn knew techniques to accomplish what I had in mind. I knew I wanted to create a vertical panorama for this shot. I wanted to capture this place in a way nobody has ever attempted.
This is a six image vertical panorama. I started with a single image of the foreground. I slowed the shutter and set my exposure for 3 minutes. I wanted to capture enough detail to expose for the foreground at night. Allowing me to capture all the detail of the mill, falls, and surrounding tree line. I then changed my exposure to 20 seconds and began my 5 image vertical panorama to capture the galactic core of our Milky Way Galaxy stretching out into the heavens above the mill. I was so lucky to have all the lights off in the neighborhood to allow me to capture the vision I had in mind. Standing in complete darkness on the bridge my vision began to come to life with every press of the shutter.
Listening to the percussion of the falls and feeling the mist gently mixing with the night air I felt at peace. With my head lamp off I couldn't even see my hands in front of me. It was so incredible to watch the galactic core of the Milky Way rise into perfect position. Hovering over the mill and the dam it tied the entire scene together.
