This is a self-portrait shot against a black studio backdrop. 2015 was a difficult year for me, and 2016 started out with both a lot of chaos and a lot of promise. I wanted to capture that feeling in a self-portrait. I chose a dark backdrop to highlight myself but also to blend into the background on the edges of the subject, and to illustrate the uncertainty that has been defining my life as of late. I included the shoulder bag I typically take when going on photo shoots as a nod to my passion for the art without being too on-the-nose about it.
