I had been courting Baba Luxman for a week, walking along the ghats of Varanasi, stopping at his little chai stall a couple of times a day, exchanging nods with him, before asking someone to translate that I wanted to take a photograph of him. He grunted an okay and I indicated that I wanted him to carry on as normal and take no notice of me. He promptly stripped off and plunged into the Ganges for his morning puja, leaving me no option but to do the same.
His films have won awards internationally (including the Miramax Scriptwriting Award), he has twice been finalist in the Wanderlust Travel Photo of the Year, has won the Wild Frontiers Photo of the Year 2014 and was second place in Sony World Photography 2015 Ireland National Award. His photographs have been published in the national press, exhibited at Royal Geographical Society and at UNESCO in Geneva.
He is currently developing a photographic project, Devotion, exploring different faith traditions around the world.
