The protagonist is my grandfather, I recorded his daily life. Due to a defeat cataract operation, he becomes blind for 4 years. Throughout the years he weeps constantly in secret, his pillow is always fully soaking wet. But he persists at the same time to practice some sports, like climb the ladder, listens to the radio news more frequently than before. As an old revolutionary who keeps communist faith all his life, despite the disability, it is necessary for him to be very careful to China National Radio station, therefore he can learn about the development of the State, than responds the call of the country. While this project would be a life story of my grandfather, an old-fashioned communist. My grandfather’s day begins with the radio news issued from the China National Radio station. For him, a true communist never give up before any difficulty. Then "enlightenment" by extension, may designate belief, aspiration and spirit, or transformation, instruction. He climbs 24 floors on the day, and at the night after dinner. His silent struggle against his fate stirs my soul, so I photographed him during the last summer.
I discuss many times in my work the metaphysical, philosophical and religious questions, as I interrogate the culture through my work, which is also a driving force, by what means it interacts vis-à-vis the society in every different civilization, every different period.
I try to show incidentally the power structure in my work, as Pierre Bourdieu states — the value of a piece of art and a culture, based on continual struggles. This fight for me is a countercurrent of an individual in relation to the community. Between the ignored whispers and the call of the economy, it’s a seesaw battle.
Often my works are the remaining bodies of this type of struggle. I'm interested in the phase of transition. I dream for the transcendental consideration in the modern soul, through different types of artistic practices.
