Statistics show that Nearly 1/2 of the world’s population live on less than $2.50 a day.
This documentary focuses on the story of a boy I had found in Abete a slum, in Lagos Nigeria.
Who was sick and dying of Kwashiorkor.
He serves as a case study of how life is for children that live in the other side of the divide. (The divide of rich and poor)
This documentary is my journey to discover the realities behind the world's statistics on poverty and how children are the most affected.

Kwashiorkor is one of the more severe forms of protein malnutrition and is caused by inadequate protein intake. It is, therefore, a macronutrient deficiency.
Kwashiorkor occurs when theres inadequate food supply

His family is made up of his mother and 4 siblings. His father had passed on before he was born. And his mother had to struggle to make ends meet. She gave him some locally made remedies to relive him of pain because she could not afford the luxury of proper healthcare.

They live in one of the shack houses in Abete, She could neither understand what was making her son sick, nor it's cure.
Statistics show that each year, millions children die before their fifth birthday due to poverty. Mikor was about to become one of them unless something was done quickly.

So I decided to base my photo documentary on the plight of this child, to show how children die quietly in the forgotten places of our society, without any hope or future.

About author:

My name is Dipo Popoola. I’m a Nigerian, And I live in Lagos, Nigeria. Photography is my calling, my profession, my hubby.
Photography remains my biggest challenge. Because, I love to tell stories, My challenge is to present every image as a story on it’s own. With it’s own direction, something that engages, a composition that makes you pause, stare, look again, and wonder… “What a frozen moment” This is my best way to describe my approach to the craft. I wrestle with every image I shoot. I take multiple shots to achieve one thing; Perfection! I assume perfection is possible and I want to wring it out of every picture.
I believe that using photography, I can shine the light on the street corners and forgotten places of society.
My passion is to reach indigent children, I want people to see and experience the plight of the indigent child, that they may be motivated and driven to do something about indigent children all over the world.
I am driven by the words of Dr Chris Oyakhilome “every child is your child” December 2004.
Because I believe that there is enough in the world for everyone, I am contnually puzzled by how much poverty exists in this side of the Atlantic. Through continuous research, I have come to realize that one major problem is access to the basic amenities of life.

So if I can tell these stories successfully, through photography, maybe someone somewhere would take an action to help these needy children. And then we can secure the future of not just these little ones, but the future of our own children.
