I was the only woman at this event held in a field a few hours outside of Samarqand, Uzbekistan. Ulak Tartysh is a popular game in this country and hundreds of men compete on horseback for a goat carcass. They then have to keep their opponents from taking the carcass and bring it to the end of the field in their leg where they then get a prize. On a rainy/snowy day like this, the carcass supposedly weighed up to 80 kg. These men were competing to win some live goats that were with me in the dump truck that I scaled to take photos.
