Originally from Belgium, Douglas Vernimmen gained his Ph.D. at the University of Liège before coming to Oxford to continue his studies. He developed an early interest in photography, and his work has been shown in about 90 salons covering 50 countries from Asia to the USA.

He is the recipient of over 150 international awards from the Royal Photographic Society (RPS), the Photographic Society of America (PSA), the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP), the International Photography Awards (IPA), the Paris Photo Prize (PX3), Photo District News (PDN) and many other prestigious photography contests.

Douglas is now based in the beautiful City of Edinburgh.
