Sunning the Buddha

The highlight of the Monlam prayer festival in Amdo region of Tibet is the 'Sunning of the Buddha'. Here in Labrang, on a crisp February morning, the monks carried out a great thangka from their monastery and then weave their way through the crowds and across the river to the hill opposite. There they unravel it - Sunning the buddha for yet another year.
His films have won awards internationally (including the Miramax Scriptwriting Award), he has twice been finalist in the Wanderlust Travel Photo of the Year, has won the Wild Frontiers Photo of the Year 2014 and was second place in Sony World Photography 2015 Ireland National Award. His photographs have been published in the national press, exhibited at Royal Geographical Society and at UNESCO in Geneva.
He is currently developing a photographic project, Devotion, exploring different faith traditions around the world.

Chris Roche was born in Quebec, Canada to Irish parents. He has since lived in Africa and several cities around Europe, dviding his time between working as a filmmaker and a photographer.His films have won awards internationally (including the Miramax Scriptwriting Award), he has twice been finalist in the Wanderlust Travel Photo of the Year, has won the Wild Frontiers Photo of the Year 2014 and was second place in Sony World Photography 2015 Ireland National Award.
